PROJECT INTRODUCTION

Hamad (New Doha) International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the Middle East and home to the national airline – Qatar Airways.  Built on a brand-new site to replace the ageing existing airport it has an annual handling capacity of 93 million passengers.

ESSURA were commissioned to develop a Concept Design Study that examined the client’s requirements and developed a guide as to how they might best be met.

CHALLENGES

The sheer size of the 36 square kilometre site posed the greatest challenge and with over 120 buildings necessitated an integrated security design that was robust, future proof and capable of being scaled.

SOLUTION

ESSURA’s study outlined the physical and electronic security systems and the associated operational procedures required to secure the perimeter of the airport. This included consideration of the surveillance and alarm systems to protect the whole of the perimeter fence-line and key Access Control Points (ACPs) which will authorise and control access to the airside operations area of the airport.

BENEFITS

Our approach ensured the ultimate security design ensured the airport was protected by a security regime to prevent any unauthorised access or interference to airside operations. We achieved this whilst meeting the requirement to provide a welcoming, safe and secure environment for the travelling public.
