PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The development comprised 1 million square metres of brownfield site to create a new business park in Riyadh.  Host to 10 government authorities, hotel, conference facilities, retail units and food and beverage outlets this mixed-use development aimed to offer a lively urban environment.

ESSURA were commissioned by HOK to provide Security Master Planning Services for the development with particular emphasis on the public realm.

CHALLENGES

Setting a benchmark model for efficient and high-quality business parks it was essential that the solution was capable of being replicated at locations across the Kingdom.

SOLUTION

ESSURA undertook a comprehensive Security Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment to inform the Security Design intent. Of particular importance was the need to “design-in” security at the earlies stages of the architectural design and ensure it was a key consideration at the early planning stages. We developed protection and mitigation objectives that fed into a strategic development approach all captured in a Security and Safety Master Plan.

Our input ensured that security was inherent in the design philosophy. Drawing on our relevant experience on similar projects including London’s Canary Wharf, allowed us to incorporate international best practice to develop a solution that was replicable and achieved a safe, secure and seamless development.

LONDON AND UK NATIONAL SECURITY, UK

The London and wider UK Surveillance System is an integrated network of fixed and mobile surveillance devices that continuously monitor activity on the UK’s road network. Developed in response to the ambition to “deny criminals the use of the road” it comprises not only CCTV but also a sophisticated back office capable of processing the vast amount of data collected by the system every day.
