PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The oil field, located near Basra, Iraq, is one of the largest in the world.  The sensitivity of the location prevents further disclosure but necessitated a comprehensive and advanced, integrated security surveillance solution.

ESSURA were contracted to provide such a solution that would allow the oil and gas companies the freedom to develop and manage the natural oil and gas infrastructure and meet the required quotas for the Iraqi Oil Ministry without interference.

CHALLENGES

Challenges were numerous but included the remote and inhospitable nature of the location and a need for connectivity to other sites operated by the company in the region.

SOLUTION

Our scope involved the design and implementation of a Security Operations Centre. This dedicated facility, co-located within the FOB, formed the heart of all security infrastructure deployed. Data (voice & video) was fused, events correlated and warnings issued as part of the general command and control operations. The system needed to be able to identify intruders, detect targets, analyse threats and present warnings / alarms whilst providing navigation assistance as part of the incident and intervention management. We also designed a Secure Communications System comprising a backbone that connected the exploration site with other company facilities. Comprising fixed and portable communication units it enabled secure voice and data exchange across multiple sites. Finally, we deployed a bespoke Tracking Solution that had the ability to track all mobile assets on land, sea and air. It also provided tracking information via a GIS platform in real-time locally and to other remote locations.
