PROJECT INTRODUCTION

Diriyah Gate Development is an ambitious project to preserve and celebrate the Jewel of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Home of the first Saudi capital it comprises a UNESCO World Heritage site which will be complemented by an array of world-class cultural, entertainment, retail, hospitality, educational, office and residential areas.

ESSURA were commissioned to develop a clear vision and strategy for safety and security provision and in particular for the public realm and iconic gathering places, including King Salman Square and the Heroes Memorial Plaza.  Additionally, we have undertaken security threat, vulnerability and risk assessment and security engineering design packages for the Phase 1 Public Realm Project and were appointed as the lead security consultant, in a custodianship role, responsible for overseeing updates to the overarching Security Strategy and Security Design Guidelines.

CHALLENGES

Home to a population of 100,000 and with an estimated 25 million visitors annually assuring the safety and security of residents and visitors within such a culturally sensitive environment, including the historic Wadi Hanifah, was paramount.

SOLUTION

Our solution comprised undertaking a comprehensive threat, vulnerability and risk assessment, development of protection and mitigation objectives and determining a strategic citywide approach in the form of a Security Master Plan. We then produced security and design guidelines to be implemented across all buildings throughout the development. Subsequent security studies, also undertaken by us, identified opportunities for enhancing and developing the security design.

By adopting an integrated and holistic approach to the provision of security that addresses site specific risks across the development ESSURA were able to ensure that security mitigation measures reflect best practice, are cost effective and deliver against the client’s extensive requirements.
